Russia on Thursday reaffirmed its confidence in maintaining a strong energy partnership with India, despite recent remarks from U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting that New Delhi would stop purchasing oil from Moscow.
Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak underscored that Russia and India share a “friendly” and mutually beneficial relationship that will continue to thrive in the energy sector.
Russia Reaffirms Energy Cooperation With India
Speaking to reporters, Novak stated, “We continue to cooperate with our friendly partners,” referring to India.
He emphasized that Russian energy resources remain in demand globally, describing them as “economically advantageous and practical.”
“I’m confident that our partners will continue to work with us, interact, and develop energy cooperation,” Novak added, expressing optimism about the long-term energy collaboration between Moscow and New Delhi.
The statement comes at a time when global energy dynamics remain volatile, with fluctuating oil prices and shifting supply chains. Despite these challenges, Russia reiterated that it values India as a trusted partner in energy trade and investment.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal responded to the remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump, reaffirming India’s position on energy security.
He stated that it has been New Delhi’s consistent priority to safeguard the interests of the Indian consumer in a volatile energy scenario.
India continues to focus on securing affordable and reliable energy supplies, while balancing its strategic and economic interests.
The statement underlined that India will make its decisions in line with national priorities, focusing on maintaining steady access to essential energy sources.
Russia Highlights Growing Bilateral Trade
Echoing Novak’s optimism, Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov said that the overall bilateral trade relations between India and Russia are on an upswing.
He noted that both nations are working towards enhancing cooperation across key sectors, with energy trade being a cornerstone of the relationship.
The envoy’s remarks further strengthen the view that India and Russia’s economic ties extend beyond energy, covering defense, technology, and manufacturing partnerships as well.
