Chandigarh, May 9, 2025:
The city of Chandigarh woke up to emergency sirens and a chilling warning from the Air Force Station early Friday morning. The Chandigarh Administration issued an urgent public alert, advising citizens to stay indoors and away from balconies following an air warning of a possible aerial attack. This marks a serious escalation in the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict, prompting heightened security across the region.
The official alert was posted by the Deputy Commissioner and SSP Chandigarh on social media, underlining the immediacy and seriousness of the threat. âAn air warning has been received from the Air Force station. Sirens are being sounded. All are advised to remain indoors and away from balconies,â read the statement.
Residents reported sirens echoing through the city as authorities took swift action to prevent any civilian harm. The warning came shortly after a tense night that saw a three-hour blackout across Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula â a pre-emptive move in response to rising tensions along Indiaâs western front.
The Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport has been closed to all civilian flights, with only essential personnel allowed access. The Indian Air Force has taken full command of the airport, supported by local police and paramilitary forces. Additional barricades and patrols have been established near sensitive zones.
This development is part of a wider national security response following recent drone and missile attacks by Pakistan, which were reportedly intercepted by Indiaâs Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems.
Following the warning, multiple states including Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan have taken immediate steps to ensure safety:
Schools shut down until further notice
Leaves of police and administrative staff cancelled
Security tightened in major cities and along the border
These steps highlight the seriousness of the situation and the efforts being made to protect civilians from potential attacks.
The current state of emergency follows âOperation Sindoorâ, Indiaâs military response to the deadly April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives. In retaliation, India targeted terror bases in Pakistan and PoK, triggering continuous cross-border hostilities.
India has since intercepted multiple drones and missiles, using high-tech air defence systems including the S-400. Tensions remain high as both nations remain on alert, and international observers are watching the situation closely.
Remain indoors and stay away from windows and balconies

In these tense times, public cooperation is crucial. The situation remains dynamic, and authorities are urging everyone to remain calm but vigilant.
