The Indian government’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a critical security alert, warning Android and Google Chrome users about vulnerabilities that could lead to severe risks such as data breaches and unauthorized access. These issues have been classified with a “High” severity rating, urging immediate attention from users.

Android Vulnerabilities

CERT-In has identified multiple vulnerabilities in Android versions before 13, 14, and 15. These security flaws could allow attackers to access sensitive information, gain elevated privileges, or cause a denial of service (DoS) on the targeted device. Affected components include the Android Framework, System, Google Play system updates, Kernel, and various vendor elements like Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Imagination Technologies.

Devices running outdated Android versions, such as smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches, are vulnerable to these security risks. CERT-In recommends upgrading to Android 13, 14, or 15 to ensure protection and minimize the potential for security breaches.

Chrome Vulnerabilities

In addition to the Android warning, CERT-In has flagged a vulnerability in Google Chrome for desktop users. The affected versions include Chrome versions prior to 135.0.7049.84 for Linux and 135.0.7049.84/.85 for Windows and macOS. Users with outdated Chrome versions are advised to update their browsers immediately to avoid potential security threats.

Why It’s Important

These vulnerabilities could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive personal data, leaving users exposed to cyberattacks. CERT-In’s warnings serve as a timely reminder to keep both Android devices and Google Chrome browsers up-to-date to protect against evolving threats in cybersecurity.

Action to Take

If you’re using an older Android version or an outdated Chrome browser, it is crucial to upgrade your system as soon as possible. Keeping your devices updated ensures protection from potential cyberattacks, helping to maintain data security and privacy.
