Infosys has let go of 240 additional trainees after they failed to clear internal assessments, expanding on the wave of terminations that began earlier in 2025. In a company email dated April 18, Infosys communicated the decision to affected individuals, citing failure to meet qualifying benchmarks in its ‘Generic Foundation Training Program’ despite multiple interventions including doubt-clearing sessions, extended preparation time, and three attempts at the test.

This development follows the termination of over 300 trainees in February and another batch of 30–45 trainees in late March at the Mysuru campus, all on similar grounds. The latest cohort of impacted trainees had joined the company on October 21, 2024, and appeared for their final assessment on April 17, 2025.

To soften the blow, Infosys is offering a range of support measures. Trainees will receive one month’s salary, accommodation, and travel allowance. More significantly, the company is offering sponsored training programs via NIIT (for IT fundamentals) and UpGrad (for BPM roles) to support alternate career pathways, either within Infosys BPM Limited or elsewhere in the tech sector.

This has prompted firms like Infosys to tighten internal evaluation processes for new hires, particularly fresh graduates, who were initially recruited during the Covid-19 era under remote onboarding conditions.

The impacted trainees, hired as System Engineers (SE) and Digital Specialist Engineers (DSE), had been waiting for onboarding for more than two and a half years. They completed their engineering degrees during the height of pandemic-related disruptions and were assessed only after finally joining the company in late 2024.

The decision to enforce rigorous assessment criteria reflects the company’s evolving focus on project readiness and immediate deployment capabilities. Infosys appears to be streamlining its fresher workforce to prioritize those with demonstrable project-fit skills, as economic conditions delay or curtail client spending on discretionary technology initiatives.

In its official communication, Infosys stressed its intent to support affected trainees by offering multiple career transition pathways. Those who did not qualify for further roles within the technology vertical are being given a chance to train for positions within Infosys BPM Limited after a 12-week program. Candidates who prefer to pursue IT roles externally can enroll in a separate training track focusing on core information technology skills.

The BPM training is being offered through UpGrad, while IT upskilling is supported by NIIT. Both pathways are sponsored by Infosys and come at no cost to the trainee. This reskilling initiative has also been extended retroactively to the 326 trainees let go in February, providing a broader cohort with career continuation options despite their exit from Infosys.

Additionally, the company is offering professional outplacement support services to assist these individuals in finding external employment opportunities.

This reaffirms the company’s long-term commitment to building a sustainable talent pipeline, even as it recalibrates its expectations around immediate deployment and project-readiness.

The fresh onboarding plans indicate that while assessments are becoming more stringent, Infosys continues to invest in early-career talent with a strategic view of future client demand recovery and digital transformation opportunities.

The results of assessments for the next batch of trainees, who are also on their final attempt, are expected next week, and could result in further terminations if failure rates persist.
