In response to the strike, the Taliban government summoned Pakistan’s ambassador Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani in Kabul on Thursday. A formal protest note was handed over, condemning the attack and warning Islamabad of potential repercussions.
The Taliban foreign ministry strongly denounced the violation of Afghan airspace, stating that “the bombing of civilians by Pakistan is an irresponsible action that will inevitably have consequences.”
In recent weeks, ties between the two neighbors appeared to be improving, supported by diplomatic engagement and dialogue facilitated by China. But the drone strike has now revived tensions and distrust, putting the fragile thaw at risk of collapse.
The incident underscores the volatility of Afghanistan-Pakistan relations, where any military action or border incident can quickly escalate into a diplomatic standoff.
