In a dramatic escalation of tensions, Pakistan reportedly launched as many as 500 small drones in just over three hours on May 8, targeting 24 Indian cities. The large-scale drone operation, revealed by News18 citing defence sources, marks one of the most aggressive attempts at aerial provocation in recent times.

India’s Defence Systems Hold Strong

Despite the scale and coordination of the attack, the Indian Army confirmed that the drone threats were effectively repulsed, and a befitting reply was given in response to the ceasefire violations. The Indian armed forces were on high alert and acted decisively.

According to government sources, India’s multi-layered aerial defence system played a crucial role in neutralising the threat. The Integrated Counter-Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Grid, S-400 Triumf systems, Barak-8 missiles, Akash Surface-to-Air Missiles, and DRDO’s anti-drone technologies worked in unison to form an effective aerial shield for India.

“India’s defence grid held firm under pressure, showcasing its preparedness and advanced response capabilities.”

Drone Attack Follows India’s Precision Strikes in PoK

The drone offensive by Pakistan comes shortly after India launched precision missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan early Wednesday. These strikes were carried out under Operation Sindoor, a direct response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, where several lives were lost.

India’s military action was described as measured but firm, sending a strong message against any attempts to destabilise regional peace.

No Casualties, India Issues Fresh Warning

On Thursday night, the Defence Ministry of India issued an official statement, confirming that military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur were among the targets of the Pakistani-origin drones and missiles.

“The threats were swiftly neutralised using kinetic and non-kinetic capabilities in line with the established standard operating procedures (SOPs). No casualties or material losses were reported.”

India also reiterated that any attack on military sites will be met with a “suitable response.” The statement clearly reflected India’s stance on protecting its sovereignty and the safety of its citizens.

India Ready and Alert

The events of May 8 have once again highlighted the importance of a strong and responsive air defence system. With increasing threats from unmanned aerial vehicles, India’s technological edge and operational readiness remain key pillars of national security.

“India remains fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its people,” the defence ministry assured.
