PM Modi Avoided Trump’s Calls, Claims German Newspaper

A German newspaper has claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi avoided four phone calls from US President Donald Trump in recent weeks, adding to speculation about tensions between New Delhi and Washington.

The report comes shortly after Japan’s Nikkei Asia also suggested that PM Modi had skipped Trump’s calls, further heightening the US President’s frustration.

Diplomat Comments and MEA Clarification

A US-based diplomat told The Times of India that it was not PM Modi’s style to negotiate sensitive matters over phone calls. However, the diplomat did not confirm the accuracy of the German report.

Earlier, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed that no calls took place between PM Modi and Trump from April 22 to June 17.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the two leaders spoke only on June 17, after a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan was already in effect.

Operation Sindoor and India’s Stand

During the 35-minute conversation on June 17, PM Modi briefed Trump about Operation Sindoor and India’s counterterrorism efforts. He also made it clear that India does not accept third-party mediation on matters of national security with Pakistan.

Trump’s Repeated Mediation Claims

Over the past few months, President Trump has often claimed that he helped prevent a possible nuclear war between India and Pakistan by leveraging trade. He has also made statements about jets being downed and wars being averted.

However, India has consistently denied any US role in mediating the ceasefire with Pakistan, reiterating that bilateral issues must be handled directly between New Delhi and Islamabad.
