Russia Downplays Trump’s Submarine Move, Says No Response Needed

In a sharp response to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent order to redeploy nuclear submarines, a senior Russian lawmaker has said there’s no need for Moscow to react. According to him, Russian forces are already in control of the relevant regions, and their submarine presence outnumbers that of the United States.

“Russia already has enough nuclear submarines in the world’s oceans to counter any American threat,” said Viktor Vodolatsky, a senior member of the Russian parliament, speaking to Russian news agency TASS.

He added that the submarines President Trump ordered to be repositioned are already in regions that Russia considers under its control, dismissing the deployment as unnecessary to counter.

Trump’s Statement Triggers Global Attention

On Friday, Trump made a surprise announcement on his Truth Social platform, citing “highly provocative statements” made by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. In response, Trump said he had ordered the redeployment of two U.S. nuclear submarines to unspecified “appropriate regions.”

He justified the decision by saying:

“Just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that.”

While Trump’s move sparked concerns of escalating rhetoric, Russia’s calm and confident response aims to project military assurance without increasing tensions further.

Background: Nuclear Tensions Resurface

The exchange is the latest in a series of public displays of strength between the two countries. However, Russia’s official stance, as expressed through its lawmakers, seems to suggest it is not looking to match Trump’s actions with a tit-for-tat escalation.

“The number of Russian nuclear submarines is already greater than America’s, and they are exactly where they need to be,” Vodolatsky emphasized.

This statement may serve both domestic reassurance and international messaging, as Russia tries to assert strategic dominance while avoiding direct confrontation over Trump’s move.
