Investors and traders, take note! The Indian stock market will remain closed on Thursday, April 10, 2025, in observance of Mahavir Jayanti, a major festival celebrated across the country.
Both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will suspend operations for the day. This includes all segments of the market such as:
Equities
Derivatives
Currency markets
Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB)
Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR)
Regular trading will resume on Friday, April 11, giving investors a mid-week break to reset and plan.
Mahavir Jayanti is one of the most important festivals in Jainism, marking the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara. It is widely celebrated across India with prayers, processions, and religious gatherings. Since it is a national public holiday, major financial institutions, including stock exchanges, remain shut.
Traders and investors are advised to plan their trades accordingly, especially those involved in short-term or day trading, as no transactions will be processed during the holiday.
The Indian stock exchanges generally operate from Monday to Friday, observing a set of scheduled public holidays each year. Mahavir Jayanti is one such occasion that brings the markets to a pause.
