Stock Market Holiday on February 26: BSE, NSE to Remain Closed for Mahashivratri 2025

Trading Holiday Marks the First Market Closure of the Year

Mumbai, February 25 – The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, in observance of Mahashivratri. As per the official list of stock market holidays for 2025, this marks the first trading holiday of the year for Indian equity markets.

On this day, there will be no trading activity in the equity, derivatives, and SLB (Securities Lending and Borrowing) segments, and all transactions will resume on Thursday, February 27, 2025.

Complete List of Stock Market Holidays in 2025

The Indian stock exchanges have announced a total of 14 market holidays for the year 2025. These include:

  • One holiday each in February, May, November, and December
  • Two holidays each in March and August
  • Three holidays each in April and October

  • Friday, April 18 – Good Friday

May 2025 Stock Market Holiday

  • Thursday, May 1 – Maharashtra Day

August 2025 Stock Market Holidays

  • Friday, August 15 – Independence Day
  • Wednesday, August 27 – Ganesh Chaturthi

October 2025 Stock Market Holidays

  • Thursday, October 2 – Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti/Dussehra
  • Tuesday, October 21 – Diwali
  • Wednesday, October 22 – Diwali Balipratipada

Additionally, the Muhurat Trading session will be conducted on October 21, 2025 (Diwali), with exact timings to be announced later by the exchanges.

November 2025 Stock Market Holiday

  • Wednesday, November 5 – Prakash Gurpurb (Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti)

December 2025 Stock Market Holiday

  • Thursday, December 25 – Christmas

Stock Market Holidays Falling on Weekends in 2025

Some major holidays coincide with Saturdays and Sundays, meaning they will not result in additional market closures:

  • Sunday, January 26 – Republic Day
  • Sunday, April 6 – Shri Ram Navami
  • Sunday, July 6 – Muharram
  • Saturday, June 7 – Bakri Id

Impact of the Holiday on Trading and Settlement

Since the market will be closed on February 26, investors should note the following:

  • No trading activity will take place in the equity, derivatives, or commodity markets.
  • The settlement of trades executed on February 23 and 24 will be adjusted accordingly.
  • Currency and commodity trading on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also remain suspended during the morning session and will resume in the evening session.
