New Delhi: The extradition of Tahawwur Rana, a key accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, has triggered a wave of reactions on social media — especially after a 14-year-old post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi went viral.

Rana, who landed in Delhi on Thursday evening via a special flight from the United States, was immediately placed under the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for an 18-day remand. His arrival marks a significant development in India’s long-standing efforts to bring the accused to justice for the deadly 2008 Mumbai attacks, which claimed over 160 lives.

Old Tweet, New Momentum

Back in 2011, PM Modi, then not in office, had voiced strong criticism against the UPA government’s handling of foreign relations. He expressed dismay over a US court decision that cleared Tahawwur Rana of a direct role in the attacks, calling it a “disgrace to India’s sovereignty” and a “major foreign policy setback.”

“US declaring Tahawwur Rana innocent in Mumbai attack has disgraced the sovereignty of India & it is a major foreign policy setback,” Modi wrote in his now-viral post.

With Rana finally in Indian custody, social media users were quick to dig up the tweet and praise Modi’s long-standing commitment to bringing him back.

“A leader who walks the talk. Captain my captain,” one user commented.
“You did it sir!! Kudos and thank you!”, wrote another.

The phrase “Modi hai toh mumkin hai” (If there’s Modi, it’s possible) began trending again, reflecting the public’s support for the government’s extradition move.
