Zomato Shareholders Approve Name Change to ‘Eternal’

Regulatory Filing Confirms Special Resolution for Corporate Rebranding

Zomato Ltd. has received shareholder approval to rename the company ‘Eternal’, marking a significant corporate rebranding move. The company informed the stock exchanges through a regulatory filing, stating that a special resolution was passed to change its name and update the Memorandum of Association (MoA) and Articles of Association (AoA) accordingly.

Despite the corporate name change, the brand name for its food delivery business will continue to be ‘Zomato’, and the app will remain unchanged.

Corporate Realignment Under ‘Eternal’

With the transition to Eternal, the company will now consist of four key business verticals:

  1. Zomato – Online food delivery and restaurant discovery platform.
  2. Blinkit – Quick commerce and grocery delivery service.
  3. Hyperpure – B2B supplies for restaurants.
  4. Zomato Payments (District) – Financial services arm.

The move reflects Zomato’s evolving business strategy, particularly its expansion beyond food delivery into quick commerce and other adjacent sectors.

Regulatory Filing and Shareholder Approval

In its official filing, Zomato Ltd. stated:

“The shareholders of the Company have duly passed the special resolution for the item as set out in the Notice, approving the change of name of the Company and consequent alteration in the Memorandum of Association and Articles of Association.”

CEO Deepinder Goyal’s Vision for ‘Eternal’

In a letter to shareholders last month, Zomato Founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal explained the rationale behind the rebranding. He emphasized that the decision was driven by Blinkit’s growing significance within the company’s operations.

“When we acquired Blinkit, we started using ‘Eternal’ internally instead of ‘Zomato’ to distinguish between the company and the brand/app. We also thought that we would publicly rename the company to Eternal the day something beyond Zomato became a significant driver of our future. Today, with Blinkit, I feel we are there.”

Following the name change, Zomato will transition its corporate website from zomato.com to eternal.com, and the company’s stock ticker will also be updated accordingly.

Strategic Shift: Zomato’s Evolution into a Multi-Vertical Business

The decision to rename Zomato Ltd. to Eternal Ltd. underscores its broader vision to become a multi-vertical digital commerce entity rather than a company solely focused on food delivery services.

  • Blinkit’s expansion: The company has witnessed a surge in demand for quick commerce, with Blinkit becoming a key revenue driver.
  • B2B growth with Hyperpure: The company’s restaurant supply chain business has been scaling operations, catering to a wide range of hospitality partners.
  • Financial Services via District: Zomato has been actively working on financial services within the digital payments ecosystem.
