The projects\u2014expected to generate \u20b944,406 crore in output and over 5,000 jobs\u2014mark a significant step toward building a self-reliant, high-value electronics ecosystem in India.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1086\" data-end=\"1423\">The approvals, announced by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on October 27, signal India\u2019s transition from assembling finished electronic products to manufacturing core components such as multi-layer printed circuit boards (PCBs), camera modules, copper laminates, and polypropylene films.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1430\" data-end=\"1494\">Tamil Nadu Leads India\u2019s Electronics Component Revolution<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1496\" data-end=\"1800\">Out of the seven approved projects, five are based in Tamil Nadu, reaffirming the state\u2019s growing dominance as India\u2019s premier electronics manufacturing hub. The approved firms include Kaynes Circuits India Pvt Ltd, SRF Ltd, Syrma Strategic Electronics Pvt Ltd, and Ascent Circuits Pvt Ltd.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1802\" data-end=\"2215\">Among them, Kaynes Circuits has emerged as a major player, bagging four projects covering PCBs, HDI boards, camera modules, and laminates. SRF Ltd will produce polypropylene film\u2014a key raw material in capacitor manufacturing\u2014while Syrma Strategic Electronics and Ascent Circuits will develop multi-layer PCBs used in consumer electronics, automotive, aerospace, and defence applications.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2217\" data-end=\"2379\">Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the first batch of approvals under ECMS represents a foundational step toward deepening India\u2019s electronic value chain.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2381\" data-end=\"2710\">\n<p data-start=\"2383\" data-end=\"2710\">\u201cThe components being approved today\u2014multi-layer PCBs, copper laminates, camera modules, and polypropylene film\u2014form the foundation of every electronic device,\u201d Vaishnaw said. \u201cWith these plants, India will meet 20% of domestic demand for high-density PCBs, 15% for camera modules, and 100% for copper laminates.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"2383\" data-end=\"2710\">Also Read : <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niftytrader.in\/content\/sebi-plans-incentives-to-boost-retail-investment-in-debt-securities\/\">SEBI Plans Incentives to Boost Retail Investment in Debt Securities<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2717\" data-end=\"2764\">Industry Response Surpasses Expectations<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2766\" data-end=\"3099\">The ECMS, launched to localize high-value electronics manufacturing, has received an \u201cunprecedented\u201d response from the industry. According to MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan, the ministry received 249 applications worth \u20b91.15 lakh crore in total investment commitments\u2014nearly double the initial target of \u20b959,350 crore.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3101\" data-end=\"3330\">These applications correspond to an estimated production value of \u20b910.34 lakh crore and employment potential exceeding 1.4 lakh jobs, significantly higher than the original estimates of \u20b94.57 lakh crore and 91,600 jobs.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"3332\" data-end=\"3571\">\n<p data-start=\"3334\" data-end=\"3571\">\u201cAgainst our initial investment target of \u20b959,350 crore, we have received proposals worth \u20b91.15 lakh crore,\u201d Krishnan noted. \u201cThis demonstrates strong investor confidence and a shared urgency to localize value addition in electronics.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 data-start=\"3578\" data-end=\"3638\">Reducing Import Dependence and Building Self-Reliance<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3640\" data-end=\"3919\">India\u2019s electronics imports\u2014particularly for components\u2014have remained a key pressure point in its trade balance. With the new ECMS projects, the government estimates a reduction of \u20b918,000\u2013\u20b920,000 crore in annual imports, boosting domestic manufacturing resilience.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3921\" data-end=\"4127\">Vaishnaw emphasized that the new projects are not just about import substitution but about building a globally competitive manufacturing ecosystem that integrates design, innovation, and research.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"4129\" data-end=\"4306\">\n<p data-start=\"4131\" data-end=\"4306\">\u201cWith these plants and the design capabilities being developed in parallel, domestic value addition will reach 38\u201340%, which is nearly at par with China,\u201d Vaishnaw said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 data-start=\"4313\" data-end=\"4365\">A Strategic Focus on End-to-End Manufacturing<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4367\" data-end=\"4704\">The Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme forms part of the government\u2019s broader Digital India and Make in India missions, designed to strengthen the country\u2019s electronics value chain. Future rounds of approvals under ECMS will prioritize capital equipment manufacturing, for which the application window remains open.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4706\" data-end=\"4905\">Vaishnaw outlined the government\u2019s comprehensive approach to creating a fully integrated ecosystem that spans finished products, core components, raw materials, and manufacturing machinery.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"4907\" data-end=\"5077\">\n<p data-start=\"4909\" data-end=\"5077\">\u201cOur vision is comprehensive\u2014we want to make the finished products, the components, the materials, and the machines that go into manufacturing all of these,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"5079\" data-end=\"5256\">The minister added that the government is also working to indigenize raw materials and strengthen critical mineral supply chains through complementary policy measures.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"5263\" data-end=\"5303\">Tamil Nadu\u2019s Dominance Reinforced<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"5305\" data-end=\"5653\">Tamil Nadu\u2019s strong infrastructure, skilled workforce, and well-established industrial base have once again placed it at the forefront of India\u2019s electronics expansion. The state already hosts major facilities for Apple, Foxconn, Pegatron, and Tata Electronics, and is now becoming a focal point for component-level manufacturing as well.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5655\" data-end=\"5894\">Industry experts believe the ECMS approvals will further cement Tamil Nadu\u2019s position as India\u2019s leading electronics destination, driving high-value investments and employment in regions like Sriperumbudur, Hosur, and Coimbatore.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"5901\" data-end=\"5962\">Building the Foundation for India\u2019s Electronics Future<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"5964\" data-end=\"6335\">The ECMS is a critical link in India\u2019s goal of achieving $300 billion in electronics manufacturing by 2026, with a strong focus on high-value, design-led, and export-driven production.
