Paytm founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma announced that the company is treating artificial intelligence (AI) as a core business vertical rather than just a support tool. Speaking during the Q2 FY26 earnings call, Sharma said AI will soon become a key revenue line item, shaping new products and services across the fintech ecosystem.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAI is a revenue line item,\u201d Sharma said. \u201cAI brings newer services, newer businesses \u2014 phenomenally more things we can do.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
AI-Led Merchant Ecosystem<\/h2>\n
Sharma revealed that Paytm is piloting AI-driven subscription services for merchants, which will later evolve into an \u2018AI commerce cloud\u2019 in the company\u2019s financial reporting. He explained that these AI-based digital assistants will act as virtual COOs, CFOs, or CMOs for small businesses \u2014 offering enterprise-grade intelligence to India\u2019s MSME sector.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cLarge companies rely on global firms like Accenture or Snowflake. We\u2019re bringing the same capability to small businesses in India,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Sharma also hinted that the Paytm Soundbox will transform into a smart, interactive device, capable of multilingual communication and customer interaction. \u201cSoundbox will sound like a feature phone someday. I mean, this will be like a smartphone,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Partnership with Groq for Real-Time AI<\/h2>\n
Paytm\u2019s AI initiatives are being accelerated through a new partnership with US-based Groq, a company known for real-time AI inference technology. The collaboration will see Paytm and its associate entities deploy GroqCloud, powered by Groq\u2019s Language Processing Unit (LPU), to achieve faster and more cost-efficient AI performance than traditional GPU systems.<\/p>\n
This integration will boost Paytm\u2019s capabilities in transaction processing, fraud detection, risk management, and customer engagement, forming the foundation for India\u2019s \u201cmost advanced AI-driven payments and financial services platform.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAI is Not Just for Cost Cuts\u201d<\/h2>\n
Sharma emphasised that Paytm\u2019s AI strategy goes beyond operational efficiency, aiming to generate new monetisation opportunities.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cCost cut is something we were already doing. AI just accelerated it and opened deeper opportunities to optimise,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m selling revenue line items and creating products that otherwise couldn\u2019t have existed.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
He added that AI will power merchant-level insights and decision-making, helping cross-sell AI-enabled products across Paytm\u2019s vast merchant base.<\/p>\n
Global Expansion and Technology Licensing<\/h3>\n
On international ambitions, Sharma said Paytm plans to license its full hardware, software, and services stack to local partners in foreign markets.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWe will give it to a partner who will run it in that country \u2014 this is like PayPal,\u201d he said, adding that Paytm\u2019s goal is to be recognised globally for world-class technology, not as a low-cost alternative.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
While Paytm\u2019s Q2 FY26 profit slipped to \u20b921 crore due to a gaming business write-down, revenue rose 24% year-on-year to \u20b92,061 crore.<\/p>\n
Sharma concluded by reiterating that AI will soon have a dedicated revenue stream in Paytm\u2019s financials, positioning the company at the forefront of AI-led fintech innovation.<\/p>\n
