Companies including Amazon, Apple, Broadcom, Cisco Systems, Meta Platforms, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Intel have urged the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to exclude the upper 6 GHz band from the upcoming spectrum sale, calling the move <em data-start=\"610\" data-end=\"621\">premature<\/em> and potentially wasteful.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"649\" data-end=\"945\">In a joint submission to TRAI, these companies said the spectrum ranges 6425\u20136725 MHz and 7025\u20137125 MHz should not be allocated for IMT (mobile broadband) use at this stage. Their primary concern: the global mobile ecosystem is not technically or commercially ready for this band.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"952\" data-end=\"992\">Concerns Over Technical Readiness<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"994\" data-end=\"1174\">The companies highlighted early trial results that showed significant performance limitations. According to them, the upper 6 GHz band is currently facing unresolved issues in:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1176\" data-end=\"1224\">\n<li data-start=\"1176\" data-end=\"1199\">\n<p data-start=\"1178\" data-end=\"1199\">Uplink capacity<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1200\" data-end=\"1224\">\n<p data-start=\"1202\" data-end=\"1224\">Indoor reliability<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1226\" data-end=\"1388\">These challenges, they said, are directly linked to service quality and could severely limit the band\u2019s effectiveness for mobile networks if rushed into auctions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1390\" data-end=\"1628\">The joint statement warned that moving ahead despite these limitations could cause a \u201cspectrum stall\u201d, where the band remains unused or under-utilised for years due to a lack of compatible devices, infrastructure, and commercial demand.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1635\" data-end=\"1683\">Lack of Global Adoption Cited as Key Risk<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1685\" data-end=\"1874\">The tech companies added that global demand for the upper 6 GHz band is weak, citing Hong Kong\u2019s recent auction \u2014 the world\u2019s first commercial sale of this band \u2014 as a clear indication.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1876\" data-end=\"1889\">In Hong Kong:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1891\" data-end=\"2023\">\n<li data-start=\"1891\" data-end=\"1932\">\n<p data-start=\"1893\" data-end=\"1932\">The auction saw low participation<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1933\" data-end=\"1991\">\n<p data-start=\"1935\" data-end=\"1991\">Bidders showed minimal willingness to pay premiums<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1992\" data-end=\"2023\">\n<p data-start=\"1994\" data-end=\"2023\">Some spectrum went unsold<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2025\" data-end=\"2285\">One major operator, Hutchison, chose not to participate at all.
