Out of nearly 30 sectoral and thematic indices, 25 are still trailing and have not yet reclaimed their previous highs.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"606\" data-end=\"647\">Selective Rally Driven by Few Sectors<\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"649\" data-end=\"981\">Since the tariff pause announced on April 8, the markets have seen a strong rebound. Both Nifty and Sensex have gained around 11% from their recent lows and are currently just 4% away from their 52-week highs. However, this rebound has largely been driven by select sectors, rather than being a market-wide recovery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"983\" data-end=\"1220\">Nifty Bank and Nifty Private Bank have been the frontrunners, trading just 1.3% below their all-time highs. Similarly, Nifty Defence and Nifty Tourism indices are also doing well and are within 3% of record highs.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"1222\" data-end=\"1259\">Many Sectors Still Far From Highs<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1261\" data-end=\"1542\">In contrast, sectors like metals, energy, auto, and real estate have shown limited participation in the ongoing rally. Analysts attribute this underperformance to lingering concerns over global economic recovery, even though tariffs were temporarily paused.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1544\" data-end=\"1583\">Some of the major laggards include:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1585\" data-end=\"1827\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1585\" data-end=\"1643\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1587\" data-end=\"1643\">Nifty Media index \u2013 27% below its 52-week high<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1644\" data-end=\"1679\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1646\" data-end=\"1679\">Nifty Realty \u2013 down 24%<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1680\" data-end=\"1717\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1682\" data-end=\"1717\">Nifty Energy \u2013 off by 23%<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1718\" data-end=\"1827\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1720\" data-end=\"1827\">Nifty PSU, Nifty Microcap 250, and Nifty IT \u2013 down 20%, 18%, and 17% respectively<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1829\" data-end=\"1958\">Even core sectors like Nifty Oil &amp; Gas, Auto, FMCG, and Pharma are trailing by 12\u201318% from their peak levels.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"1960\" data-end=\"2000\">Broader Markets Also Underperforming<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2002\" data-end=\"2280\">The broader market has also not fully joined the rally. The Nifty Midcap 100 is still down by 15%, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 is 10% off its highs. This indicates that investor confidence is still cautious, especially in the mid and small-cap segments.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2282\" data-end=\"2298\">Key Takeaway<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2300\" data-end=\"2586\">While the headline indices like Nifty are approaching record levels, the overall market breadth remains narrow.
