Ride-hailing platform Uber India has taken a major step by integrating with ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) to offer metro ticketing services, starting with the Delhi Metro. This marks Uber\u2019s first integration with India\u2019s digital public infrastructure, building on a prior MoU signed during CEO Dara Khosrowshahi\u2019s India visit earlier this year.<\/p>\n
With this move, Uber becomes one of the first mobility giants to enable public transport ticketing on ONDC, further expanding its multimodal strategy that already includes cars, autos, bikes, and buses. The service will go live in three more cities later this year.<\/p>\n
\n“We are starting off with metro ticketing and B2B logistics, and will explore more services going forward,” said Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
However, Uber will not be offering ride-hailing via ONDC just yet, similar to its rival Ola, which also limits its ONDC offerings to logistics and retail.<\/p>\n
\ud83d\udd04 Metro Ticketing Made Easy on the Uber App<\/h2>\n
Starting May 19, Delhi Metro users can now plan their journeys, buy QR-code-based tickets, and view real-time transit updates\u2014all from the Uber app. This service is made possible through a collaboration with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and ONDC\u2019s backend system.<\/p>\n
\nUber highlighted that ONDC\u2019s interoperable infrastructure helped accelerate this integration, compared to a direct partnership model.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
\ud83d\udce6 Uber Eyes B2B Logistics Through ONDC<\/h3>\n
Uber is also gearing up to launch a business-to-business (B2B) logistics service via ONDC, initially targeting food delivery. This move allows businesses to use Uber\u2019s vast delivery network without investing in their own fleet.<\/p>\n
The service aims to expand to e-commerce, grocery, healthcare, and pharmacy logistics, opening up new growth avenues for Uber and potentially boosting ONDC\u2019s presence in logistics\u2014a segment that saw flat volumes in April.<\/p>\n
\ud83d\udcca ONDC’s Current Performance and Uber’s Role<\/h3>\n
ONDC’s monthly transactions stood at 1.6 crore in April 2025, with mobility accounting for the bulk of it at 93 lakh orders. However, retail transactions dropped to an 11-month low of 43 lakh, while logistics remained flat at 24 lakh.<\/p>\n
\nUber\u2019s integration could be crucial in helping ONDC strengthen its footprint in urban transport and logistics, especially as retail growth tapers off.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
