The Company is a part of the Tata Group and is engaged in the retail business. In 1998, the Tatas acquired Littlewoods, which is a London based retail chain. Soon after, the Tata group established Trent and renamed the Littlewoods as the Westside. Currently, it is restructuring its business by closing loss-making value fashion format stores, Fashion Yatra, and revamping its operations in the brand name, Sisley. And as a part of its restructuring plan, it also converts the stores of Fashion Yatra into its popular department store named as Westside. Five Fashion Yatra stores are located at Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, Kalyan near Mumbai, Nanded, and Sangli in Maharashtra, and also Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh. It also operates about 61 Westside department stores and a dozen hypermarkets under the Star Bazaar brand. The company also runs a Landmark book-stores and stores of Spanish brand name, Zara. As a part of its retail expansion plans, it also plans ... to touch the 100 store mark in Westside in the coming four years. The company also prefers to take the Star Bazaar count to 50 within the coming years, which is expected to help it accomplishing scale and profitability. It also offers a spectrum of products such as stylized clothes, footwear, and accessories for men, women, and children to the well co-coordinated table linens, artifacts, home accessories, and furnishings. Today, Westside is one of India's largest and fastest-growing chains of retail stores. In 2004 the company ventured into hypermarket business with Star Bazaar. This outlet is currently located in 3 cities, namely Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Bangalore. The company also offers a spectrum of products at affordable prices such as beverages, staple foods, health and beauty products, vegetables, fruits, consumer electronics, dairy products, and numerous household items. In 2008, the company announced its association with Tesco Plc, which is the UK leading retailer and one of the world's top three leading international retailers. This specific arrangement will allow Trent to have an access to Tesco extensive retail expertise as well as technical capability including world-class processes, IT systems, and best practices in functions such as stock management, marketing, retail information systems, cold-chain infrastructure and front-end services to drive the growth of Trent hypermarket business that is operated under the brand name, Star Bazaar. In 2009, the company announced a joint venture with the Inditex Group for developing and promoting Zara stores in India. Also, Inditex is considered as one of the world's Biggest fashion retailers from Spain. In the MoU signed, Inditex also holds 51% whereas, Trent only had a 49% stake in the joint venture company. From the effect on June 1, 2010, Jamshed Daboo was being appointed as the chief executive officer of the Trent Hypermarket.

  • Fashion Yatra: Under this segment, the company's stores bring the quality fashion at low prices to value-conscious customers in towns across the whole country.
