Amazon H-1B Salary Data Revealed: High Pay for Tech Talent in the US

Amazon’s latest H-1B visa filings have given a rare peek into what the e-commerce giant pays its foreign employees in the United States — especially in tech-centric roles like software engineering, data science, and financial analysis.

According to the publicly available filings, Amazon employed around 11,300 H-1B workers in the US during Q1 of 2025. These employees, many of whom are from India, are hired under the H-1B programme to take up specialised, high-skill roles in Amazon’s US operations.

Wide Salary Range Based on Role, Location & Division

While Amazon has a massive global workforce of over 1.5 million people, this data shines a light on the compensation trends within its US tech teams.

Here’s a snapshot of salaries across major roles:

  • Software Engineers at Amazon Web Services (AWS) can earn up to $185,000
  • Software Development Engineers at Amazon.com can take home as much as $263,700
  • Data Scientists earn up to $230,900
  • Technical Product Managers can make up to $235,200

These figures reflect the demand for skilled tech professionals, particularly in areas involving cloud, data, and product development.

Pay Varies by Experience and Performance

An Amazon spokesperson noted that salary packages vary depending on the role, experience, geographic location, and individual performance. The company also reviews its pay structures regularly to ensure it remains competitive and attractive to top-tier talent.

This transparency through visa filings not only reveals how Amazon structures its compensation but also underlines the strategic importance of H-1B talent in its US operations.

Competitive Landscape for Foreign Tech Workers

Amazon’s salary disclosures also highlight the growing competition among tech giants to recruit and retain the best global talent. With data scientists, engineers, and product managers in high demand, companies like Amazon are leveraging compensation as a key retention strategy.

For foreign professionals dreaming of a tech career in the US, these numbers offer a clear picture of what’s possible at one of the world’s biggest tech employers.
