Microsoft Teams is set to become even smarter with a new feature that will automatically detect when users are physically present in the office. The platform will identify the user’s location based on the Wi-Fi network their device connects to, ensuring that Teams accurately reflects whether an employee is working remotely or from the office.

According to a recent listing on the Microsoft 365 roadmap, once the device connects to an organisation’s internal Wi-Fi, Teams will automatically update the user’s work location to that specific office building.

This means no more manual updates — Teams will now know when you’ve walked into the office.

The upcoming auto-location detection feature aims to make hybrid work coordination easier by helping managers and colleagues know who’s in-office and who’s remote. This could improve meeting planning, collaboration, and real-time communication across distributed teams.

Custom Keyboard Shortcuts for Faster Access

Alongside location detection, Microsoft Teams is also introducing the ability to customise keyboard shortcuts. This new option will let users assign shortcuts for their most frequently used icons, symbols, or functions, making navigation quicker and more personalised.

This feature is designed to enhance productivity by helping users perform repetitive tasks more efficiently without constantly using menus or the mouse.

Users will be able to ask Copilot questions like “Which products had the highest sales?” or “What feedback was given on each slide?”, receiving answers directly from the meeting data.

Beyond summaries, Copilot will also have the ability to rewrite document sections or slides using real-time feedback provided during the meeting. This makes collaboration not just smarter but also more interactive and responsive.

Global Rollout and Availability

Microsoft announced that the Copilot screen-context feature is expected to roll out globally in August 2026 across Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, and web platforms.

This expansion of AI-powered features underlines Microsoft’s ongoing effort to blend automation, intelligence, and convenience into its enterprise collaboration tools, ensuring Teams remains at the forefront of modern workplace communication.
