Bharat Electronics Q1: Revenue Up 25%, Profit Up 8%, But Margins Miss — Stock Falls 4%
Investors rushed to book profits in BEL share price on Tuesday after Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) reported its Q1 FY27 results. Although the defence PSU delivered healthy revenue growth and higher quarterly profit, weaker-than-expected operating margins disappointed the Street, dragging the stock to its lowest level in nearly seven months.
The sharp decline has now raised an important question for investors: Is the correction in BEL share price a buying opportunity, or does it signal more downside ahead? While earnings reflected strong execution, brokerages remain divided on whether margin pressure could weigh on the stock in the near term.

Bharat Electronics Share Price Falls Nearly 4% Despite Strong Revenue Growth
BEL shares declined nearly 4% to ₹392.10, extending losses after the company announced its Q1 FY27 earnings.
For the quarter ended June 2026, Bharat Electronics reported a net profit of ₹1,048 crore, up 8% year-on-year from ₹969 crore in the same quarter last year.
Revenue from operations increased 25% year-on-year to ₹5,533 crore, compared with ₹4,417 crore a year ago, indicating healthy execution across its defence projects.
However, the market focused more on profitability than revenue growth. Rising costs and lower operating margins triggered selling pressure despite the strong top-line performance.
Margins Become the Biggest Concern for Investors
The biggest disappointment in the BEL Q1 FY27 results was the decline in operating margins.
While total income stood at ₹5,701 crore, total expenses jumped 31% year-on-year to ₹4,298 crore, leading to weaker profitability.
BEL’s EBITDA margin slipped to around 25.1%, below market expectations. Investors reacted negatively as higher costs offset the company’s robust revenue growth.
Despite the weak quarter, the company retained its FY27 EBITDA margin guidance of above 28%, suggesting management expects margins to improve over the remaining quarters of the financial year.
“Management remains confident of achieving its FY27 order inflow target and maintaining long-term growth despite temporary margin pressure,” several brokerages noted after the earnings announcement.

Why Did BEL Shares Fall After Q1 FY27 Results?
At first glance, Bharat Electronics’ Q1 FY27 results appeared strong—revenue jumped 25% YoY while net profit increased around 8–9% YoY. However, the market reacted negatively because investors were more concerned about profitability (margins) than top-line growth.
Key Reasons Behind the Stock Decline
- EBITDA margin disappointed: BEL’s EBITDA margin came in at around 25.1%, well below both Street expectations and the company’s long-term guidance of above 28%. This became the biggest trigger for profit booking.
- Higher costs hurt profitability: Rising operating expenses and a less favorable product mix reduced operating leverage, limiting the benefit of strong revenue growth.
- Execution mix impacted gross margins: Management attributed the weaker margins to the execution of relatively lower-margin projects during the quarter, resulting in lower gross profitability despite healthy order execution.
- Soft order inflows raised near-term concerns: Although management reiterated its FY27 order inflow target of over ₹55,000 crore, first-quarter order inflows were relatively weak because of timing differences and procedural delays in large defence programmes such as QRSAM.
- Profit booking after strong performance: BEL shares had delivered strong gains before the results. When margins missed expectations, investors chose to lock in profits despite the company’s healthy revenue growth.
Order Book Continues to Support BEL’s Long-Term Growth
Despite short-term concerns over margins, BEL’s order pipeline remains strong.
The company reported an order book of ₹72,258 crore as of July 1, 2026, providing healthy revenue visibility over the next few years.
Management also reiterated its FY27 order inflow target of more than ₹55,000 crore, supported by large defence programmes including QRSAM, indigenous defence systems, and other strategic projects.
Analysts believe India’s continued push towards defence indigenisation remains a structural growth driver for Bharat Electronics.
Brokerages Stay Positive Despite Margin Miss
Most global and domestic brokerages maintained positive views on the stock despite the weak margin performance.
Jefferies retained its ‘Buy’ rating with a target price of ₹550, implying an upside of nearly 35%. The brokerage said revenue exceeded expectations, while management remained confident of maintaining an EBITDA margin above 28% during FY27.
CLSA reiterated its ‘Outperform’ rating with a ₹522 target price. It attributed softer first-quarter order inflows to temporary delays in government procurement but highlighted strong execution of existing projects.
Goldman Sachs maintained a ‘Buy’ rating and a ₹470 target price. According to the brokerage, management expects order inflows to accelerate during the remaining quarters despite a weak start to FY27.
Nuvama Institutional Equities also retained its ‘Buy’ rating with a ₹485 target price, expecting execution to improve through major air defence projects, exports, repairs, and upgrades.
Meanwhile, Nomura remained relatively cautious, maintaining a ‘Neutral’ rating with a ₹454 target price. The brokerage expects BEL to deliver around 15% CAGR in profit after tax, although it acknowledged that lower margins weighed on the June quarter performance.

Here’s What Happened Today and Why Traders Reacted
The market reacted sharply because investors were expecting BEL’s strong revenue growth to translate into better profitability.
Instead, the company’s EBITDA margin fell to around 25%, indicating higher operating costs and an unfavourable execution mix during the quarter.
As a result, traders booked profits in the stock despite healthy earnings growth.
However, management’s decision to retain its FY27 revenue growth, margin, and order inflow guidance prevented a sharper decline in sentiment.
Should Investors Buy, Sell or Hold BEL Shares?
The near-term outlook for BEL share price may remain volatile as investors assess whether the margin weakness is temporary or structural.
Positives supporting the stock include:
- Revenue growth of 25% in Q1 FY27.
- Massive ₹72,258 crore order book.
- FY27 order inflow guidance above ₹55,000 crore.
- Long-term opportunities from defence indigenisation, QRSAM, AMCA, Akash, LCA radars, exports, and system upgrades.
The primary risks remain:
- Continued pressure on operating margins.
- Rising input costs.
- Delays in government procurement and large defence contracts.
With most leading brokerages maintaining Buy or Outperform ratings and target prices ranging between ₹470 and ₹550, the broader market continues to view BEL as a long-term defence growth story despite the near-term earnings disappointment.
Market Outlook
The latest decline in BEL share price reflects investor disappointment over weaker-than-expected margins rather than concerns about the company’s long-term business fundamentals. Revenue growth remained strong, the order book continues to provide multi-year visibility, and management has reaffirmed its FY27 guidance.
For long-term investors, the focus will now shift to margin recovery, execution of large defence programmes, and the pace of fresh order inflows. If BEL delivers improved profitability in the coming quarters while maintaining strong execution, the recent correction could present an attractive opportunity for investors looking to participate in India’s expanding defence manufacturing sector.
