NSE India Holidays 2026 Trading Holiday Calendar; Markets to Remain Shut for 16 Days
The National Stock Exchange of India has officially released its trading holiday calendar for 2026, outlining the days when trading across equity, equity derivatives, and Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) segments will remain closed.
According to the exchange schedule, Indian stock markets will observe 16 trading holidays during 2026, including national holidays, religious festivals, and a special closure for Maharashtra municipal elections. The calendar also highlights several long weekends that could impact settlement cycles, derivatives expiry strategies, and trader positioning.
Among the earliest closures in the year is January 15, 2026, when markets will remain shut due to the Municipal Corporation Election in Maharashtra. This is followed by Republic Day on January 26 and Holi on March 3.
Major festive closures in the second half of the year include Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14, Dussehra on October 20, Diwali-Balipratipada on November 10, and Christmas on December 25.

Market Timings
Trading on the equities segment takes place on all days of the week (except Saturdays and Sundays and holidays declared by the Exchange in advance). The market timings of the equities segment are:
- A) Pre-open session
Order entry & modification Open: 09:00 hrs
Order entry & modification Close: 09:08 hrs*
*with random closure in last one minute. Pre-open order matching starts immediately after close of pre-open order entry. - B) Regular trading session
Normal / Limited Physical Market Open: 09:15 hrs
Normal / Limited Physical Market Close: 15:30 hrs - C) Closing session
The Closing session is held between 15.40 hrs and 16.00 hrs - D) Block Deal session Timings:
Morning Window: This window shall operate between 08:45 AM to 09:00 AM.
Afternoon Window: This window shall operate between 02:05 PM to 2:20 PM.
Muhurat Trading to Be Held on Diwali
The NSE confirmed that Muhurat Trading will be conducted on November 8, 2026, on the occasion of Diwali Laxmi Pujan. The special symbolic trading session, traditionally considered auspicious by investors and traders, will take place despite the day being a Sunday. Exact timings will be announced later through an official circular.
Market Timings Remain Unchanged
The exchange said normal market timings for the equities segment will continue as usual on trading days.
The pre-open session will run from 9:00 AM to 9:08 AM, followed by the regular trading session from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM. The closing session will take place between 3:40 PM and 4:00 PM.
For block deals, the morning window will operate between 8:45 AM and 9:00 AM, while the afternoon window will remain open from 2:05 PM to 2:20 PM.
Market participants typically use the annual holiday calendar to plan settlement obligations, derivatives expiry adjustments, hedging strategies, and liquidity management ahead of extended trading breaks.
