F&O Build-Up November 6: Key Numbers
The November 6 dashboard snapshot covered 218 individual stocks after excluding four index symbols.
| F&O Signal | Stocks |
|---|---|
| Long Build-Up | 86 |
| Short Build-Up | 59 |
| Short Covering | 22 |
| Long Unwinding | 7 |
| Neutral | 44 |
| Total | 218 |
Long build-up outnumbered short build-up by 27 stocks.
A long build-up signal combines rising prices with increasing OI, while a short build-up combines falling prices with increasing OI. These classifications describe positioning patterns, not confirmed institutional activity or future market direction.

ICICI Bank, Yes Bank and HDFC Bank Lead Long Build-Up
Banking stocks stood out among the positive derivatives signals.
ICICI Bank gained 4.75% as open interest increased 11.98%. Yes Bank advanced 5.91%, accompanied by a 6.36% OI rise, while HDFC Bank climbed 3.72% with OI up 2.22%.
Hindalco also showed a long build-up, rising 2.19% alongside a 13.74% increase in OI.
Within the dataset’s banking category, 12 stocks recorded a long build-up against five showing a short build-up, indicating relatively broader positive positioning in the sector.
Motherson, Astral and SAIL Show Short Build-Up
Despite Nifty’s strong performance, several individual stocks continued to display bearish price-and-OI combinations.
Motherson declined 5.63%, while OI increased 13.05%. Astral fell 9.68%, accompanied by a 36.52% rise in OI.
SAIL slipped 0.41% as open interest increased 19.12%, while NBCC declined 2.90% with OI rising 5.32%.
Meanwhile, IREDA gained 1.19% as OI declined 4.95%, placing it in the short-covering category rather than long build-up.

Foreign Inflows Help Nifty Post Its Best Week Since 2021
The market rally coincided with renewed foreign investment and easing crude oil prices.
Foreign institutional investors purchased approximately ₹15,000 crore of Indian shares on Thursday, their biggest single-day net purchase in nearly six years, according to Reuters.
Financial stocks gained 10.4% during the week, while HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank advanced 13.8% and 12.4%, respectively.
However, the stock-level derivatives data suggests the market rally was not uniform. Banking stocks displayed relatively stronger long build-up signals, while several industrial and auto-component stocks remained under pressure.

What Traders Should Watch Next
The November 6 F&O snapshot showed a long build-up outnumbering a short build-up, but the numerical advantage alone does not establish the strength or sustainability of the rally.
Traders should monitor whether positive price-and-OI signals persist in banking stocks and whether short build-up continues in weaker counters.
The next scheduled equity derivatives session is Diwali Muhurat Trading on Sunday, November 8, from 2:20 PM to 3:40 PM IST.
