On April 26, 1995, the company was being incorporated under the Companies Act as Priya Village Roadshow Limited and also obtained a certificate of commencement of business as on December 4, 1995. On June 28, 2002, the company name was being changed from Priya Village Roadshow Limited to PVR Limited consequent to the exit of Village Roadshow Limited from the company.

Some of the key events since the Company was incorporated are being set forth below:

• In November 1994, the joint venture agreement was executed among Village Roadshow Limited, Australia and PEPL.
• In April 1995, it was being incorporated as a joint venture among Village Roadshow Limited and PEPL.
• In February 1996 1, about 199,300 Equity Shares of the company were issued to Ajay Bijli Motor Finance Limited., which is now known as BIPL (the company's Promoter).
• In June 1997: It opened India's first Multiplex Cinema PVR Anupam, a four-screen cinema, at Saket, New Delhi.
• And, started the computerized box office operations by selling and computerized tickets at its cinema in, PVR Anupam.
• In January 2000, it started a single-screen cinema PVR Priya at Vasant Vihar, New Delhi.
• In August 2001, it also opened a four-screen Multiplex Cinema, PVR Naraina in New Delhi.
• In November 2001, it opened a three-screen Multiplex Cinema, PVR Vikaspuri in New Delhi.
• In November 2002, the PEPL also acquired the complete shareholding held by Village Roadshow Limited in the Company.
• In May 2003, it opened a seven-screen Multiplex Cinema, PVR Gurgaon at the Metropolitan mall, Gurgaon, Haryana.
• In November 2004, it opened India's largest Multiplex Cinema, PVR Bangalore, along with eleven screens at the Forum mall, Koramangala, Bangalore.
• In May 2004, it opened PVR Plaza, which is a single-screen cinema with a heritage ambiance located at Connaught Place, New Delhi.
• In November 2004, it started its operations at the first multiplex under the management fees/franchise model - PVR SRS, with a three-screen Multiplex Cinema at SRS mall, Faridabad, Haryana.
• In March 2005, it opened its tenth Multiplex Cinema, PVR EDM, and a three-screen cinema at East Delhi mall, Uttar Pradesh.
• 2005: PVR Ltd, which is a multiplex cinema operator, also has fixed its IPO price at INR 225.
• 2008: It appointed Mr. Sanjay Khanna as an Additional Director on the Board of the Company as on April 15, 2008.
• 2010:
• It opened another Multiplex in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
• It opened a Multiplex at Allahabad, U.P.
• It opened two Multiplexes at Ghaziabad, U.P.
• 2011:
• Both the Imax and PVR Cinemas sign Four Theatre Deal in India.
• It also opened a Multiplex at The Celebration Mall situated at Udaipur.
• It opened another Multiplex at The RahulRaj Mall located at Surat.
• 2012:
• It opened a Multiplex at Avani Riverside Mall, Howrah.
• It opened a Multiplex at Nanded.
• It opened a multiplex in Bilaspur, Chattisgarh.
• It opened 8 screens multiplex in Mumbai.
• It opened a Multiplex at ORION, Bangalore.
• 2013:
• It opened a Multiplex at Koregaon Plaza Mall, Pune, Maharashtra.
• It opened a Multiplex at ORION, Bangalore.
• It opened a Multiplex at Lulu Shopping Mall, Kochi.
• It also launched its first IMAX Theatre at PVR Phoenix Mills, Lower Parel in Mumbai.
• It opened a Multiplex at Andheri, Mumbai.
• It opened two Multiplexes at Elante Mall, Chandigarh, and Phoenix.
• 2015:
• It opened a Multiplex located at MSR Regaliaa Elements Mall, Bengaluru.
• It also opened a Multiplex at Bokaro Mall, Bokaro, Jharkhand.
• It tied up with CinemaCon to bring 4DX to India.
• It strengthened its presence in South India.
• 2016:
• It retained its leadership in the state of Karnataka.
• It introduced 6 screens multiplex at Bengaluru.
• It also achieved a historic milestone of about 500 Screens.
• It launched the magnum opus of the multiplex industry PVR 'Superplex' at Logic City center.
• It also inaugurates 5-screen multiplex at Panvel, Raigad District, Maharashtra.
