This Company was earlier, also known as Tata Tea, which was set up in the year 1964. It came into existence via a joint venture with the UK–based James Finlay and the Tata Group for manufacturing both tea and coffee. Recently, the Tata Tea and the UK–based Tetley group are among the world’s second-largest branded tea operations with their presence in about 40 countries worldwide.
The company also has a portfolio of five brands in the domestic market, such as Tata Tea, Tetley, Kanan Devan, Gemini, and Chakra Gold.
It has a distribution network of about 38 C&F agents and 2500 stockiest that cater to over 1.7 million retail outlets. Also, it has three subsidiaries such as Tata Tea Inc., Tata Coffee & Tata Tea (GB).
The company has its headquarters located in Kolkata and owns 27 tea estates in states such as Assam, West Bengal, and Kerala. It has a 100% export unit for the instant tea that is located in Munnar, Kerala. The company has 15,900 hectares of land for tea cultivation. Tata Tea also produces 30 million kg of black tea per annum.
The Brand Tetley offers several customized products to many countries along with a spectrum of teas such as black, green, fruit and herbal teas, iced ready–to–drink teas and also an extensive range of exotic specialty tea. It caters to several markets in the countries such as Australian, Middle East, West Asia, North Africa, Poland, Russia, and Kazakhstan. It also contributes to the two-third of the total turnover of Tata tea.
The Brand Tata Tea is also into the strawberry preservation business. It also offers vocational rehabilitation along with an additional source of income to the elder children.
