What is the MCX LTP Calculator?

The MCX LTP Calculator (also called OI Timeflow) is a free tool that shows the live Last Traded Price and Open Interest movement for MCX commodity option contracts. Instead of staring at a raw option chain, you get a time-based flow of how LTP and OI are shifting together — the clearest way to spot fresh buying, short covering, long unwinding and short build-up as they happen.

Because MCX commodities are globally priced, OI behaviour here often reacts to overseas cues (US inventory data, dollar moves, geopolitical headlines). The OI Timeflow view helps you separate genuine directional commitment from intraday noise.

Commodities You Can Track

NiftyTrader's MCX LTP Calculator covers the most actively traded commodity options on the Multi Commodity Exchange:

  • Gold LTP Calculator — The bullion benchmark, driven by global rates, the dollar and safe-haven demand.

  • Silver — Higher volatility than gold; tracks both bullion and industrial demand.

  • Crude Oil — The single highest-volume, highest-OI commodity option in India. Reacts sharply to inventory reports and OPEC news.

  • Natural Gas — Extremely volatile and weather-driven; suited to experienced traders.

  • Copper — An industrial bellwether tied to global growth and manufacturing demand.

Crude Oil leads the commodity options market by volume and OI, with Gold and Silver close behind. Natural Gas, Copper and Zinc see thinner liquidity and are best traded with limit orders.

Why MCX Trading Hours Make This Tool Essential

This is the biggest structural difference from equity options. MCX non-agri commodities (metals and energy) trade in two sessions:

  • Pre-open: 8:45 AM – 8:59 AM (order modification only)

  • Morning session: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

  • Evening session: 5:00 PM – 11:30 PM (during US Daylight Saving, currently in effect since 9 March 2026; this reverts to 11:55 PM in winter when the US ends DST in November)

Roughly half the trading day happens after equity markets close, overlapping with US sessions where the real price discovery for gold and crude often takes place. A live OI Timeflow view is the only practical way to monitor positioning across that long, globally-driven window.

How to Use the MCX LTP Calculator

  1. Select your commodity — Gold, Silver, Crude Oil, Natural Gas or Copper. Each has its own contract structure and expiry.

  2. Pick the expiry — Load the active monthly contract for that commodity.

  3. Read the live table — Strike-wise LTP, change in OI, volume and trend for both Calls and Puts.

  4. Watch the OI Timeflow — See how LTP and OI evolve over time to identify short covering, fresh longs or unwinding.

  5. Use support & resistance — The highest-OI strikes are flagged as the strongest support and resistance zones.

  6. Time your entries — Combine the trend signal with OI shifts to confirm entries and exits.

Why Traders Rely On It

  • Built for commodity hours — Keeps working through the full 9 AM–11:30 PM session.

  • Fast reversal detection — LTP + OI together flag turns faster than price alone.

  • Global-cue ready — Read positioning around US data releases in the evening session.

  • Less guesswork — Strike-wise support/resistance straight from OI concentration.

  • One screen, all majors — Switch between gold, crude, silver and gas without losing context.
