GMR Infrastructure Limited or GMRINFRA

GIL or GMR Infrastructure was incorporated in May 1996, and it was earlier known as Varalakshmi Vasavi Power Projects which is located in Andhra Pradesh. Later, the name changed to the GMR Vasavi Infrastructure Finance in 1999, and then it was finally changed to GMR Infrastructure in 2000. The company is the infrastructure holding company that was formed to fund the capital requirements of various infrastructure projects in the Group. It targeted the sectors of Energy, Highways, and Airport and SEZ specifically. It also undertakes the development of infrastructure projects via its various other subsidiaries.

Some of the Businesses:

  1. Airport:
It is engaged in both the restructuring and modernization of the airports. And for this, it allies with various authorities.  For the Delhi airport, it has developed a consortium with Fraport AG (Europe's largest cargo hub and second largest passenger airport), and Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide (owners and managers of Frankfurt Airport) and also the India Development Fund (an IDF AMC managed fund). Under this business, it has completed the Rajiv Gandhi Airport in Hyderabad, which was started with commercial operations in March 2008. The company also has an interest in the companies that operate the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, and the Sabiha Gokcen International Airport in Istanbul.
  1. Energy:
It is also involved in the development of power plants. It has successfully developed a 200 MW power plant for Tamil Nadu State Electricity Board. It has lined up of power projects such as Vemagiri Power Generation (388.5 MW), GMR Bajoli Power Project (180 MW) and GMR Chhattisgarh Power Project (1000 MW), among others. The company also has a portfolio of assets, which include gas, coal, and hydro projects; and two hydro projects in Nepal, one gas-based power project in Singapore, and coal assets in South Africa and Indonesia.
  1. Highways:
GIL is also into developing roads and has completed two road projects awarded by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) namely Tambaram–Tindivanam, and Tuni–Anakapalli. It has won other highway projects, namely Ambala–Chandigarh, Adloor–Gundla Pochanpalli, Tindivanam–Ulunderpet and Thondapalli–Jadcherla. Besides, the company holds concessions for six highways measuring a total length of approximately 1684 Lane kilometers, as well as provides illumination, with high–mast lighting at various junctions and flyovers. The company has also engaged itself in the production of sugar and even the development of a multi-product exclusive economic zone in the Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu. It has also developed various sugar plants such as Sankli Sugar, and Dhanalakshmi Sugar, and Haliyal Sugar. The company has taken up the development of SEZ which is situated in the Krishnagiri District in Tamil Nadu. And it also offers aircraft charter services and consultancy for business aviation.
